Spring Maintenance Checklist

Its’s that time of year again!

Easily cross off monthly maintenance items, and help keep your home in tip-top shape. From testing your smoke detector batteries to inspecting the weather-stripping and everything in between, this checklist is a one-stop-shop of home maintenance for spring.

March

  • Check air ducts, remove covers and vacuum dust from vents
  • Check and clean the heat recovery ventilator (HRV); wash or replace the filter
  • Check attic, basement and crawl spaces for leaks or moisture
  • Check sump pump for discharge
  • Remove snow and ice from overhang and vents
  • Clean your bathroom exhaust fan grills to ensure good airflow
  • Test smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors, replace batteries as needed
  • Clean humidifier and check for condensation and proper humidity levels
  • Clean your range hood filters
  • Empty your central vacuum system canister and clean the filter

 

April

  • Check eavestroughs and downspouts for debris
  • Clean or replace the furnace filter
  • Clean humidifier and check for condensation and proper humidity levels
  • Inspect attic, basement or crawl spaces for leaks or moisture
  • Check the roof for loose or cracked shingles
  • Check driveways and walks for cracking
  • Inspect water heater for leaks
  • Turn on exterior water supply
  • Plan landscaping to avoid soil settlement and water ponding
  • Test smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors, replace batteries as needed
  • Clean humidifier and check for condensation and proper humidity levels
  • Clean your range hood filters
  • Empty your central vacuum system canister and clean the filter

  • Aerate and fertilize your lawn
  • Inspect fences and decks for signs of deterioration (peeling paint, loose boards, cracks)
  • Check caulking and weather stripping
  • Check adjustable steel posts in the basement
  • Check exterior finishes for signs of deterioration (peeling paint, loose siding, cracks)
  • Check windows and screens are operating properly
  • Test septic system and clean
  • Test smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors, replace batteries as needed
  • Clean humidifier and check for condensation and proper humidity levels
  • Clean your range hood filters
  • Empty your central vacuum system canister and clean the filter
